Every seven years, the streets of Bavaria come alive with the sound of drums, swirling figures, and colorful costumes – this is the Schäffler Dance, a traditional coopers’ dance that has symbolized courage, craftsmanship, and hope for over three centuries. Rooted in a legend from the time of the plague, this extraordinary Bavarian tradition weaves together history, ritual, and community, offering a unique glimpse into Europe’s living heritage.

For centuries, the faithful have been hanging plaques for themselves and their loved ones on the façade of the Chapel of Our Lady in Altötting. Over the centuries, they have become one of the most recognizable and characteristic elements of this place, creating a chronological record of the history of prayers, hopes and fulfilled desires.

Altötting will soon host the traditional Monastery Market. For the twentieth time, numerous monastic communities, monasteries and abbeys from Germany and abroad will present their traditional products and products from the monastery workshops, pantries, vineyards and breweries on the main town square, Kapellplatz, next to the Chapel of Grace. Of course, Altötting will also have a Shrines of Europe stand!
