Częstochowa Celebrated World Tourism Day

On 25 September 2026, Częstochowa celebrated World Tourism Day. This year’s celebrations were particularly special, taking place in the year marking the 200th anniversary of modern Częstochowa and the 30th anniversary of Shrines of Europe – the Association of European Shrine Cities.

The event was an opportunity to thank those who are actively involved in developing tourism, promoting the city and sharing its heritage. For the first time, the title of “Tourism Ambassador” was awarded, recognising 11 people for their outstanding commitment to Częstochowa and the development of tourism.

The programme included a presentation by Daniel Zalejski, a staff member of the International and Domestic Cooperation Department of the City of Częstochowa, focusing on the 30 years of activity of Shrines of Europe – the Association of European Shrine Cities. Przemysław Jaskurzyński presented a lecture entitled “200 Years of Modern Częstochowa – Crafts, Industry, Tourism”, exploring the city’s development and its changing role over two centuries.

Several dozen people involved in promoting tourism in Częstochowa and the surrounding region were also recognised during the event. They received commemorative certificates and a copy of Freeman Tilden’s “Interpreting Our Heritage” – a publication offering inspiration for developing modern approaches to presenting heritage and creating meaningful visitor experiences.

Regional education was another important theme of the celebrations. For many years, teachers and local educators in Częstochowa have been engaging young people in discovering the history, culture and heritage of the city, while also highlighting its European dimension and its place within the Shrines of Europe network.

The event also provided an opportunity to celebrate two important anniversaries: the 70th anniversary of the Częstochowa Branch of the PTTK Guides’ Association and the 70th anniversary of the Częstochowa Speleological Club.

The Częstochowa Tourism Organisation also took part in the celebrations, including by presenting awards to the winners of its competitions.

World Tourism Day in Częstochowa demonstrated how many people and organisations contribute to the city’s tourism sector – from guides and educators to tourism organisations and those involved in international cooperation.

As one of the Shrines of Europe cities, Częstochowa continues to strengthen cooperation with European shrine cities, combining the protection and promotion of heritage with modern tourism and the international exchange of experience.

Daniel Zalejski is also a member of the Shrines of Europe Technical Team. We are proud of this cooperation and warmly congratulate our partners in Częstochowa on this special celebration, the city’s achievements and their continued commitment to tourism, heritage and European cooperation.
