The International Football Tournament "Youngs for Peace" was organized by the Municipality of Ourém. Fatima, known worldwide as a City of Peace, became the ideal place to host this event thanks to the message of peace delivered by the Virgin Mary to three shepherd children during the apparitions in 1917.
The tournament carried a special symbolic meaning, reminding us that sport has always been a space of peace. Where competitions took place, conflicts would pause and communities were born. Today, in a world facing increasing tension and division, this message remains as relevant as ever.
Young athletes from Ourém’s partner cities — including Czestochowa, Wadowice, Lourdes, Altötting, Levoča, Raseiniai, and Uherský Brod — came together in Portugal not only to compete on the pitch, but above all to promote the timeless values of sport: unity, respect and fair play.
Although the games were full of emotion and excitement, the overall atmosphere was one of openness and mutual support. The young players showed that it is possible to compete with integrity and class — to enjoy the game while respecting their opponents.
In the final rankings, the team from Lourdes claimed victory, Atletico Ouriense finished second, and the team from Wadowice took third place. But just as important as the sporting results were the relationships and impressions the participants took home with them. Everyone left Portugal richer in new friendships and lasting memories.
Beyond the sporting competition, the young athletes also had the chance to discover the beauty of the region. They visited Fatima, explored the medieval charm of Ourém and its castle towering above the town, and relaxed after the tournament on the Atlantic coast in São Martinho do Porto. In the evenings, they took part in cultural and social events that allowed them to connect more deeply, sharing experiences not only on the pitch but also beyond it.
The "Youngs for Peace" tournament was more than just a sporting event — it was a meeting of cultures and people brought together by a shared passion. It proved that sport has the unique power to unite across borders. And Fatima, once again, as a true City of Peace, showed that it can bring people together in the name of goodness, solidarity and hope.
