Seeing the 6 Madonna’s of 6 European Shrines in one site is not possible?

Yes it is! When you visit Altötting (Germany) you will find a beautifully designed fountain on the Zuccalli square. A local and very well-known artist called Joseph Michael Neustifter made the fountain. He works mainly in bronze and his work comprises more than 200 huge sculptures and fountains as well as more than 80 Chancel designs in various churches above all in South-East-Bavaria. Joseph Michael Neustifter is a member of the Munich art association “Münchener Secession”.

The Shrines of Europe fountain can be found opposite the new Cultural and Congress Forum in Altötting and was inaugurated in 2013.

Shrines of Europe experts might wonder, why there are only 6 cities and the representations of their Madonna on the fountain. Einsiedeln in Switzerland joined the Shrines of Europe as newest member in 2017 so 4 years after the completion of this fountain. All 7 Shrines of Europe partners can be found in the Altötting Treasury and Pilgrimage museum that tells about the historical development of pilgrimages in general and about Altötting and its history in detail. One exhibition room is dedicated to the Shrines of Europe and shows a copy of each Madonna.
